What is the conference about?

In July this year, the European Commission published the EU protein action plan. It names the Danish action plan for plant-based foods as a model among member states. The food-side measures, however, are left to the member states. So this will be a Hungarian decision.

On 30 November, we will look at how. We are asking our Danish speaker to explain how the government, farmers and the food industry worked together in Denmark, and what the first step was. The morning also covers EU plans and market incentives. In the afternoon, actors from the Hungarian food chain take the floor: cultivation, processing, catering and consumption. The panel asks the question in the title of the day: where next?

We are not here to argue why action is needed. We are looking for the steps that can open up more opportunities for Hungarian farmers, processors and caterers. We welcome representatives of government, professional associations, research and the food chain.

In Hungarian and English, with simultaneous interpretation. Participation is free of charge and registration is required. Places are limited, so we ask for one registration per organisation.

Why now?

There is an EU framework

On 7 July 2026, the European Commission published the EU protein action plan. It aims to raise the share of EU-grown protein from oilseeds and protein crops from 25% in 2025 to 35% by 2035.

There is a working model

In 2023, Denmark became the first country to adopt a national action plan for plant-based foods. It is part of a 2021 agricultural agreement that set aside DKK 1 billion for the sector, most of it for a new fund for plant-based foods. The EU action plan refers to it as good practice.

The next step is national

The action plan builds on the national and regional partnership plans under the Common Agricultural Policy after 2027. These plans will decide what is implemented in Hungary.
